A programme of archaeological monitoring associated with the Longford Villages Sewerage Scheme was carried out during 2013. The works, originally proposed for the three villages of Ardagh, Aghnacliff and Ballinalee, were carried out in Ardagh and Aghnacliff, but did not take place in Ballinalee. A desktop assessment of the project was undertaken in 2004, which was revised in 2008 (Tobin, 2008). Following this a programme of testing was undertaken in 2009 at the three locations near to sites of archaeological potential (Bennett, Excavations 2009:552, 550 and 549). Nothing of archaeological significance was identified during testing. No features of archaeological significance were identified during the course of monitoring works at Ardagh and Aghnacliff.
