Cartographic sources indicate that a castle stood in the immediate vicinity of the site of a proposed cattle shed close to Fedamore village. Test trenching in 2012 (12E0303) revealed a pit and several ditches or gullies thought to relate to the occupation of the castle and follow-up excavation took place in 2013.
The site had been heavily truncated in recent years and only the bases of the archaeological features survived. The site was characterised by six pits, two ditches and a shallow linear gully. Based on the pottery and other artefacts found in the features it is likely that they represent post-medieval activity perhaps associated with the site of Fedamore Castle. A single sherd of medieval pottery (13th-century Limerick-type ware) found in the overburden overlying the archaeology hints at occupation pre-dating the castle.
