Site 22-1, Ballintlea was discovered during monitoring of topsoil stripping for the Bord Gáis Networks Gas to Great Island scheme (12E0356).

A cluster of medieval features was badly truncated by early modern agricultural activity. Six pits, seven post-holes and two hearths probably represent medieval domestic activity and an assemblage of Leinster Cooking Ware and Kilkenny-type ware pottery suggests a 13th-14th-century date.
