Site 20-3 Crowbally was discovered during monitoring of topsoil stripping for the Bord Gáis Networks Gas to Great Island scheme (12E0356).

The site comprised a burnt stone spread with an underlying trough, pit and well. The burnt stone spread measured 16m by 14m and was up to 0.32m thick. There were two deposits in the spread, consisting of loose black and grey sandy silt with frequent burnt stone inclusions. The rectangular trough measured 2.4m by 1.9m and was 0.5m deep with near-vertical sides and a flat base. Seven stake-holes found in the trough base did not form a discernable pattern. The pit was sub-circular in plan, measured 0.56m by 0.54m and was just 0.1m deep. The well or sump, that naturally filled with water, was 0.79m deep and measured 5m by 2.8m with moderately steep sides. All the features beneath the spread contained burnt stone fills. The site is currently undated, however a radiocarbon date is pending.
