Site 17-4 and 18-1 Castlegannon (255361 131700 to 255453 131702) was discovered during monitoring of topsoil stripping for the Bord Gáis Networks Gas to Great Island scheme (12E0356). Two nearby areas separated by a minor road contained features that appeared to be lime kilns. On excavation they all proved to be stone-filled field clearance pits of no archaeological significance.
