Archaeological trial trenching was carried out at the site of a proposed extension to a two-storey nineteenth-century dwelling in Abbey townland, Co. Galway on 24 October, 2013. The dwelling house is located c. 175m north-west of Kinaleghin Friary, a Carthusian foundation dating from the mid-thirteenth century, which was later to become a Fransciscan Friary. Three trenches were excavated at the site of the proposed extension and the proposed percolation area. Excavation revealed disturbance to the upper layers of stratigraphy in all trenches with undisturbed underlying natural soils which were featureless and did not yield finds or features of archaeological interest.
