Pre-development testing was carried out on the site of a proposed new playing pitch and public walkway/cycleway at Ballyloughane, Renmore, Co. Galway on 18 June 2013. Testing was recommended on foot of a geophysical investigation (McCarthy 2012) which identified a number of anomalies of possible archaeological origin. Nine test trenches were targeted on the geophysical anomalies. The anomalies were found to have a non-archaeological origin, most being modern deposits of boulders associated with land improvement. Nothing of archaeological interest was found and no further archaeological mitigation was recommended.
