Testing was undertaken at Deanestown and Corduff, Co. Dublin for the National Sports Campus Development Agency in advance of the development of GAA pitches.
Testing followed on from a geophysical survey undertaken in 2012 by Minerex Geophysics Ltd (Krahn, 2012; Licence 12R111).
A total of eight trenches were mechanically investigated across the test area targeting geophysical anomalies. A small area of archaeological potential, comprising three pits containing burnt mound material, were identified in Trench 2.
The anomalies in the other trenches were not of archaeological significance and either related to agricultural or drainage linear features or geological variations. While nothing of archaeological significance was identified during the testing of anomalies in Trenches 1 and 3–8 it was recommended that all ground disturbances associated with the proposed development be monitored.
