Monitoring was undertaken of ground works associated with Contract 7 Additional Works of the DLRCC, located at Killiney Avenue and Seapoint Road, Co. Dublin (OS Sheet 26). Monitoring was required for two sections of watermain rehabilitation.
Monitoring was recommended in a desktop assessment of the scheme in February 2013 (Tobin and Bailey, 2013) due to the proximity of a megalithic structure (DU026-010) and a Martello Tower (DU026-089).
Nine test trenches were excavated in Seafield Road and three test trenches were excavated in Killiney Avenue. In both areas the road had been laid directly onto the natural subsoil or bedrock. Nothing of archaeological significance was identified during the course of these works.
