An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the proposed construction of a residential and commercial development at a site at Little Enler on the River, Comber. One site on the SMR is recorded within the proposed development area, DOW 010:062 identified as an unlocated urn.

A series of 147 test trenches were mechanically excavated extending across the development area, avoiding areas of known contamination and those designated as green space within the development. The majority of these trenches did not contain evidence of any significant archaeological activity, although many did contain evidence of modern agricultural use and a number of modern field drains were also identified.

Archaeological remains were however identified in a total of 21 trenches, namely Trenches 2, 6, 7, 10, 16, 17, 19, 22, 72, 74, 89, 110, 111, 112, 132, 142, 143, 156, 157, 205 and 208. The remains consisted of linear features, a pit, ditches and a possible burnt mound. Where dating evidence was identified it would appear that the majority of the features date to the prehistoric period, notably the Neolithic and Bronze Age.
