Test trenching was carried out in advance of construction of a new hall.
No archaeological material was uncovered.
A large enclosure (DOW 041:076) is supposed to have encroached onto the site. This enclosure is rumoured to be the rath after which Rathfriland was named. Although no evidence of the enclosure could be found the site had been severely damaged during its occupation by the army and the police.
