This work was in relation to removal of peat prior to a sand and gravel quarry extension.

The area consisted of peat overlying grey sandy clay subsoil, which in turn overlay the sand and gravel. In places the peat was approximately 2.5m deep and contained pieces of wood. Where possible the wood was checked; no pieces showed signs of tool marks or working and would appear to be remains of trees naturally buried in the encroaching peat. No archaeological features or artefactual material was uncovered either within or below the peat.
