St Mollagga’s, Aghacross, was a medieval parish church, which has undergone extensive rebuilding. Fragments of Romanesque architecture incorporated into the building indicate its twelfth-century origins, while its east end is clearly later medieval. The excavation was comprised of two trenches in a vacant plot among modern burial plots on the north side of the church. The purpose was to ascertain if the plot was free of existing burials. The trenches were excavated to a depth of 0.4m, where undisturbed natural gravels were found. Several fragments of disarticulated bone were found, but no articulated skeletal remains.
