The unlicensed monitoring of topsoil removal was required as a condition of planning consent at Coolgarriff, Coachford, Co. Cork. This was carried out on 16 January 2013 using a machine and grading bucket, covering the entire footprint of the proposed dwelling house, garage and percolation area. The development site was not in immediate proximity to any particular archaeological site but was in an area rich in standing monuments belonging mostly from the prehistoric and early medieval periods. The stratigraphy on the site consisted of between 0.3m and 0.4m of topsoil overlying the natural, stony boulder clay. There were no archaeological features or finds noted.
