Test trenching was undertaken in advance of the creation of an access track in the vicinity of St Lachtain’s Well (CO069-030—-), Reenanaree, Co. Cork. The well comprises two rock-cut hollows on a bedrock outcrop located 15m to the north of the access track terminus. The proposed development will impact on poorly drained, open marginal land on the south-facing slope below the holy well. There are no existing access features to the well and none are visible on the consulted historic mapping. A centre-line test trench was excavated on the footprint of the access track and no archaeological features were uncovered. The upcast topsoil from the trenches was metal-detected (13R031) in order to aid in artefact retrieval and the only responses were from modern metal debris close to the public road to the south.
