An archaeological evaluation was carried out prior to the proposed construction of a single dwelling at 50 Corlust Road, Clare, Co Armagh. The proposed dwelling is beside ARM 018:018, identified as a platform rath.
A series of three parallel test trenches, orientated north-west/south-east, were excavated using a back-acting machine fitted with a toothless bucket. The trenches varied in length with Test trench 1 being the longest at 23m. Trenches 2 and 3 were shorter at 6m and 10m respectively. Test trench 2 was slightly shorter than originally planned due to an electricity cable being present between the garage and cottage.
Aside from the remnants of a cobbled surface, no further archaeological remains were uncovered within the trenches.
