An archaeological evaluation in the form of targeted test trenching was carried out at the site of a Hydro Electric power scheme at Breckagh Burn, Dungorbery, Co. Antrim in response to a request for more information from NIEA Historic Monuments.
A desk-based study and site visit confirmed that the proposed pipeline will pass near souterrain ANT017-056/059. There remains the possibility of subsurface archaeological activity associated with this monument to be impacted upon by the proposed scheme. A series of 6 machine-cut test trenches were excavated within the portion of the scheme adjacent to the souterrain. Test trenching revealed that no archaeological remains associated with the monument survive within its vicinity.
