Test trenching and excavation were carried out on a small section of rath ditch ahead of the construction of a new church hall.
The heavily disturbed remains of a rath (ANT 063:028) were already recorded within the Sites and Monuments Record. Ground being cleared for the construction of the new church hall uncovered a section of the infilled ditch. The ditch was 4m wide and, from the original ground surface, 2m deep. Hazelnut shell from the base of the ditch returned a radiocarbon date of AD 970 to 1030.
