Stage (i) a test excavations were carried out on a proposed improvement scheme of the N81 close to Hollywood, Co. Wicklow. The testing was undertaken in October 2012. A total of 23 trenches amounting to 1525 linear metres were excavated, including hand-dug test trenches at site WI009–036. All trenches were excavated to the level of subsoil or to the top of archaeological deposits where present. Topsoil ranged in depth from 0.15m to 0.35m over the area. No archaeological material was found in topsoil deposits. Site WI009-036 was confirmed to be archaeological in origin. No new archaeological sites were identified.
