Site 33-2 Greatisland was discovered during monitoring of topsoil stripping for the Bord Gáis Networks Gas to Great Island scheme (Excavations 2012, No. 334, 12E0356). Three burnt stone deposits and a trough were excavated.

The first burnt stone spread was orientated north to south, measured 11m by 3.5m and was typically 0.1m thick. The second burnt stone spread was orientated from east to west, measured 3m by 1.5m and was 0.26m thick. The third burnt stone spread was orientated from north to south, measured 0.8m by 0.15m and was 0.1m thick.

A trough lay beneath the third burnt stone spread. The trough was oval in plan, measured 1.9m (west to east) by 1.35m and was 0.43m deep with a flat base.
