A soil chemical characterization survey was continued in the area of about 1km2 around the villages of Castlecaulfield and Donaghmore. Soil samples were taken every 50m and geochemical testing in a field laboratory revealed numerous areas of significantly elevated soil phosphate that are likely to represent archaeological sites from various eras. Additionally, 8 1m x 1m and 1m x 3m test trenches were excavated by hand. Several showed evidence of cultural layers from historic and probable prehistoric sites. Charcoal samples were collected for radiocarbon dating.
