Planning permission was sought for farm redevelopment works—building of a shed, silage base and concrete aprons—at Tullahedy, Nenagh. As part of the planning process testing was undertaken on the site, due to its proximity to a motte and bailey (possible).

In total four trenches were opened across the development site which was located c. 16.5m to the south of the monument.

Nothing of archaeological provenance was revealed during testing. This was not surprising, as, once the upper strata beneath surface detritus was exposed, it was evident this site had previously been stripped to facilitate the construction of the extant farmyard. A substantial bank of soil immediately to the north of the farmyard consisted all the stripped material from the previous works.
