Monitoring took place of Phase 1 of a 9-turbine windfarm development. The remaining works are scheduled for 2013. The overall project includes ancillary works, substation and access roads. It takes in the townlands of Glencarbry, Piper Hill, Glenpaudeen, Glenlough Lower and Foilmacduff. Phase 1 of the works entailed monitoring of topsoil stripping at the location of Turbine No. 9, including excavation of an open drain and the construction of a silt trap. The works took place on 27 and 28 September 2012. The area of topsoil stripping comprised 1700m². A 2m-wide drainage ditch at the top (tapering to 1m at base) was excavated along the southern side of the stripped area and extended a further 21m from the south-east corner as it arced northward to parallel the area’s eastern side. The mechanically excavated area achieved up to 0.4m in depth and exposed the underlying naturally occurring subsoil throughout
