In 2011 the monitoring of groundworks associated with the construction and extension of Borrisokane Community College uncovered the foundations of the accommodation unit of the former workhouse building (Excavations 2011, No. 555). The walls of this narrow rectangular building were recorded prior to construction of the school extension. In 2012 further excavation works associated with the school building programme were monitored and sub-surface remains of the former workhouse structure identified. The foundations of the western range of buildings including the boiler house and laundry rooms were recorded. A number of pit features were uncovered below the community school and charcoal samples recovered from these pits may indicate prehistoric activity at the site.
