A test excavation was undertaken in August 2012 as part of an on-going assessment of the proposed improvement of the N59 between Farranyharpy and Ballygreighan, Co. Sligo. The archaeological works were initiated to facilitate reconstruction of the retaining wall to the north of the existing road adjacent to SL018-046. A single trench was excavated in Doonflin Lower townland with the aid of a 13-tonne mechanical excavator equipped with a grading bucket. The excavated trench was 19m long by 3.5m wide. No sites, features or artefacts of an archaeological nature were observed in the trench.
