Conor's Island is an extension of at the northern end of Streedagh Beach, Grange, Co. Sligo. The remains of a large, sea-eroded enclosure, SL002-02701, were subjected to a small-scale excavation, funded by the Heritage Council, to retrieve environmental and dating samples. The exposed/eroded portion of the enclosure was difficult to access due to its height above the beach and only a small area, measuring 0.4m wide by 0.1m deep, was removed from the exposed section of the only visible potential archaeological deposit, sandwiched between the sod and the underlying subsoil. Approximately 5l of material was removed and a charcoal sample yielded a date ranging from the late 17th to late 19th centuries, indicating the likely later re-use of the site or contamination.
