Pre-construction testing works were undertaken in advance of the construction of a dwelling house and associated site works at Kilnamanagh, just under 3km west of Collooney village. The development site is located adjacent to a rectangular enclosure.
A total of five test trenches were opened on the site. The remains of a linear feature were exposed towards the south-west end of Test trench 1. A substantial 2.6m wide, this feature appeared to be the remains of a removed field boundary. The present large rectangular field was formerly two fields as denoted on the 25 inch 1870s OS map series and on the 2nd edition (1913). Interestingly, on the first edition (1839), it was one large field, having now reverted back to the 1839 layout.
The other four openings were featureless. Extensive traces of weathered bedrock were apparent in the base of two test trenches opened in the northern part of the site, whilst in the first opening there were traces of weathered bedrock in the north-east end of the opening.
