Additional testing was required in three areas in the townlands of Keelbanada, Ballinbhuill and Teevnacreeva as part of the N5 Ballaghaderreen Bypass. This programme of work follows on from three previous phases of testing on the bypass. In 2009 Headland Archaeology, carried out targeted testing under licences 09E0475 (Nial O’Neill, Excavations 2009, No. 699) and 09E0476 (Tara Doyle, Excavations 2009, No. 688). Three sites of archaeological potential were identified within the townlands of Kellbanada and Teevnacreeva. A second phase of testing was carried out by IAC Ltd in 2010. Work within the three townlands (Areas 8-13) was carried out by Dave Bayley under licence 10E0307 (Excavations 2010, No. 584) but no additional features of archaeological significance were identified.
The additional testing included works in Test Area 10 and 11 (greenfield sites) and Test Area 9, which was formed by wetland terrain. A total of 489 linear metres (in the greenfield areas) and 2592m2 (in the wetland area) of trenches were excavated within the areas to be tested (Additional Areas 9–11). Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered.
