Boyle Cistercian Abbey, founded in 1160, is situated at the north-east part of Boyle town and just above the Boyle River. The development involved the replacement of footpath on the east side of the Old Sligo Road by a similar one for about 12m. No archaeological knowledge was gained from the works on the footpath.
