A programme of testing was undertaken at Shinrone, Birr, County Offaly, prior to the proposed construction of a single storey dwelling house and garage. Test trenching took place on 9 February 2012. This was carried out using a 15-tonne mechanical excavator, with a flat, toothless bucket, under supervision. A total of four trenches were mechanically investigated across the test area, which covered c. 0.5ha.
The proposed development area is located immediately adjacent to enclosure site OF042-016. However, no features of archaeological potential were identified during the assessment.
