A programme of monitored test trenching was conducted in two available areas of the proposed development site at Concra and Omony, on the banks of Lough Muckno near Castleblaney, Co. Monaghan. This involved the excavation of four test trenches of varying sizes comprising a total area of 220m².
No features, finds or deposits of archaeological significance were found in Trenches 1, 3 or 4, however a small number of features of potential archaeological significance were observed in Trench 2. The features consisted of small irregular shaped pit-like and post-hole-like features containing charcoal and irregular shaped areas of burnt sediment (evidence of in situ burning). These features appeared to be ephemeral and may be prehistoric in date. The features were found at NGR 83682 19401, 83682 19394 and 83683 19389.
