Testing was undertaken in October 2012 on lands proposed for a future quarry development at Platin, Duleek. A crop mark was identified on the site from aerial photography and LiDAR survey in the course of a desktop assessment. It was visible on the ground surface as a broad, shallow undulation crossing the field. The field was ploughed and topsoil was 0.8-1m deep. Subsoil was grey brown, stony clay. In total 270 linear metres were excavated at five locations at the site of the crop-mark. No archaeological sites or features were recorded. No archaeological objects were noted in excavated deposits. It was concluded that the cropmark was caused by underlying geomorphology and was not archaeological in nature.
