Monitoring of topsoil stripping for construction of a new Town Park at Abbeylands, Navan Co Meath uncovered previously unidentified archaeological occupation within the boundaries of the development in two distinct areas of the site. Area 1 located within the central area of the site where three sports pitches were being constructed contained two small prehistoric ring ditch burial monuments and a number of un-marked graves of likely post-medieval date. Area 2 located within the car park area of the site contained the partial remains of a substantial ditched enclosure containing several large inter-cutting ditches which surrounded smaller enclosed areas and several kilns. Occupation material from the ditches consisted largely of decayed and butchered animal bone and while no dateable finds were recovered from this area it is likely that the ditches are associated with early medieval occupation within the area.
