The test area follows the line of the proposed N60 road realignment scheme to the west of Balla, Co. Mayo. Testing was confined to green fields adjacent to the existing road to assess the archaeological potential of these areas. A series of 30 machine trenches were excavated to undisturbed subsoil. No features or artefacts of archaeological interest were uncovered by this testing.
