The test area follows the line of the proposed N60 road realignment scheme to the south-east of Balla, Co. Mayo. Testing was confined to greenfields adjacent to the existing road to assess the archaeological potential of these areas. Included in this area is MA090-026 (enclosure and moated site possible). A series of machine trenches were excavated to undisturbed subsoil. No features or artefacts of archaeological interest were uncovered by this testing. Roughly 80% of the proposed testing in this area has been completed to date – further testing may be carried out.
