2012:408 - RATHKEALE: Englishtenments, Limerick

A systematic testing programme was undertaken at the location of a proposed residential development at Englishtenments, Rathkeale, Co. Limerick on 24 February 2012. This consisted of excavation of a total of 730m² of linear test trenches. The testing was undertaken in order to determine the nature, extent and location of any potential sub-surface features, finds or deposits of archaeological consequence at the locations of wind turbines. The site was heavily disturbed in parts, having been in-filled and levelled in the recent past. No features, finds or deposits of archaeological potential were identified in any of the other test trenches. A scan of the topsoil from the trenches produced no finds, and only modern glazed ceramics, glass, plastic and concrete kerbs.
