Site 10-10 Tinvaun was discovered during monitoring of topsoil stripping for the Bord Gáis Networks Gas to Great Island scheme (above No. 334, 12E0356). The site was located in flat pasture encompassing an area of 30m2 and revealed a possible post-medieval folly enclosure with pits and post-holes.
The possible folly enclosure ditch was sub-circular in plan with an internal diameter of 15.13m and respected a rock outcrop to the west. No entrance was identified. The ditch contained a single fill that produced post-medieval pottery and was partially filled with stones indicative that the cut may have been a foundation trench for a rough wall.
Pit 2 was located toward the western edge of the excavation. The pit was sealed by a natural accumulation of dark greyish brown clayey silt and produced a copper/copper alloy object.
Three additional pits and 6 post-holes with no clear function or relationship were identified on site.
