Monitoring of initial site clearance works for an apartment development immediately inside the town wall along the river Breagagh provided an opportunity to carry out a detailed survey of the defences at this location. The wall had been cut back and refaced on a number of occasions but it was still possible to reconstruct the line of its medieval wall walk, putlog holes and a slip gate to the river. At the west end of the site the massive stonework for a weir that channelled water into the brewery mill stream was revealed.
