Site 4-11, 12, 13, 14 Garranstan was discovered during monitoring of topsoil stripping for the Bord Gáis Networks Gas to Great Island scheme (Excavations 2012, No. 334, 12E0356). Four areas of activity were excavated: 4-11 contained nothing of archaeological significance; 4-12 contained a pit; 4-13 contained pits and a post-hole; and 4-14 contained a pit and a deposit.

Area 4-12 had a single oval pit that measured 1.3m by 0.59m and was 0.22m deep.

The post-hole in Area 4-13 was 0.8m in diameter and adjacent to the post-hole was a pit. The pit measured 0.8m by 0.6m, was 0.26m deep and contained a similar fill to the post-hole. The two other pits excavated in Area 4-13 differed—one was 1.3m long, 0.9m wide and 0.51m deep; whilst the other pit was sub-rectangular with rounded corners, measured 0.9m by 0.5m and was 0.32m deep.

Area 4-14 contained an oval pit, 0.66m by 0.45m and 0.28m deep, and a deposit of friable mid orangey brown silty clay measuring 1.5m by 1.2m and was 0.11m thick. A crumb of as yet unidentified prehistoric pottery was recovered from this deposit.
