Testing was carried out at the 6-acre site of a proposed residential development, located to the immediate west of the Sallin’s Road, within the townland of Oldtown Demesne, Naas, Co. Kildare. The area of the proposed development is located within former demesne lands associated with Oldtown House. The remains of this house are located c. 850m to the south of the proposed development. Test trenching commenced at the site on 15 March 2012. This was carried out using a 13-tonne mechanical excavator, with a flat, toothless bucket. A total of 13 trenches were mechanically investigated across the test area. No features of archaeological significance were uncovered.
