A ‘Request for Further information’ with respect to a planning application submitted for a single residential development, required that the proposed development area be subjected to an Impact Assessment, including testing. In general, the surface of the subject site is level, with an almost unnoticeable fall from north to south, and is presently under grass.

The poorly preserved remains of a large enclosure (KD014-009) with estimated original dimensions of c. 300m north-south x 290m are located to c. 55m to the west.

A total of fifteen test trenches, of varying lengths and orientations, were excavated within the boundaries of the site. All trenches were excavated by machine fitted with a toothless ditching/grading bucket, following which the sides and bases of the trenches were cleaned by hand and examined. In addition, all the spoil generated by the excavation of the test trenches was ‘raked-over’ in an attempt to increase the potential for the recovery of archaeological artefacts.

Nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered during the course of the testing.
