Test trenching was carried out at a proposed development which involves the construction of a private dwelling house with wastewater treatment system and percolation area, access driveway and all associated site development works at Ardnagragh, Cordal East, Castleisland, Co. Kerry
The proposed development is located partially within the Zone of Archaeological Potential around KE040-106, which comprises a church and graveyard. A request for further information associated with the planning application required that an Archaeological Impact Assessment including test-trenching be undertaken.
Testing was carried out on the 31 October 2012. Overall 5 test trenches, totalling 188 linear metres, were excavated within the green field footprint of the development. No archaeological features were found in any of the excavated test trenches.
