Testing and monitoring were carried out at Letterpeak Wind Farm between July and November 2012. The wind farm comprises 7 wind turbines, access roads, anemometry mast, sub-station, borrow pit and associated site works at Shannagurraun and Truskaunagappul, Co. Galway. Each turbine site was tested with the trenches generally arranged in a T-shape on the site of each crane pad, with a third trench on the footprint of the turbine itself. The turbines for the most part were located on cutaway bog in former turbary. Where peat levels remained in any substantial depth the stratigraphy was consistent across the site, grading down from less hummified grassy levels to well hummified dark sphagnum peat. The underlying granite bedrock occasionally appeared as outcrop. No archaeological material was found.
