Monitoring took place of construction of an 110kv electricity line from Salthill – Screeb, in Connemara, Co. Galway. The development runs roughly parallel to the N59 Galway – Clifden road as far as Maam Cross before veering south-west towards townlands of Derravonniff and Glencoh. This is a linear development consisting of three overhead wires supported by double wood pole structures, whose poles are 5m apart and of average height of 20m. Where the line changes direction, lattice steel towers of average height 15m and with an average base area of 5m square are used. The average distance between structures is approximately 170m. The scheme involves construction of 276 structures in total.

All ground works to date associated with construction of pole sets and angle masts along with associated access routes have been carried out under archaeological supervision. The line does not impact directly on any known archaeological sites. Work on this project is still underway. To date no archaeological finds or features have been exposed during monitoring.
