In March 2012 pre-development testing was undertaken at the site of a proposed treatment unit, percolation area and possible geothermal heating unit associated with Rahaly tower-house in South County Galway (GA114-144). Testing was undertaken in advance of planning to ascertain if sub-surface archaeological features survive in the area of the proposed development. The work involved the excavation of three trenches in the area of the proposed percolation and geo-thermal unit and the monitoring of a single trench from the tower-house to the area of the proposed treatment unit. No features of archaeological significance were encountered in the course of testing and monitoring.
