Monitoring of groundworks associated with the installation of a gas main through the grounds of Coláiste Iognáid School connecting existing services between Sea Road and Raleigh Row, Galway took place over a three days of August 2012. The average depth of the trench was 1.1m deep by 0.5m wide. Below the tarmac surface excavation exposed a mainly natural coarse grey brown sand with a moderate amount of granite boulders. Occasionally there was evidence of modern infilling around redundant services. Nothing of archaeological potential was noted along the length of the trench.
