Monitoring of groundworks associated with the Galway Group water scheme Bundle no. 2, in various townlands between Castleblakney and Woodlawn, was carried out between July and October 2012. The scheme had been the subject of a previous assessment carried out by Moore Archaeological and Environmental Services in August 2011. The assessment stated that the proposed works to be carried out along the existing carriageway would not have a significant impact on the local cultural heritage resource and recommended periodic site inspections, monitoring in areas of archaeological potential and testing in Moyarwood in the vicinity of the enclosure GA073-147 (Area 190SK007). In accordance with this agreed mitigation strategy regular site visits were undertaken to inspect the open trenches and monitor groundworks. Throughout the course of these inspections nothing of archaeological significance was noted nor was there any finds recovered.
