Trial trenching was carried out at the site of a proposed extension to Cregganna Castle, a restored tower-house in Cregganna More townland, Co. Galway on 8 October 2012. The site of proposed extension was located in low-lying ground to the north-west of Cregganna Castle. Six trenches were excavated in this area. The stratigraphy was relatively shallow, comprising natural, undisturbed soils and sand, with depths of between 0.4m and 0.6m below ground level. Nothing of archaeological significance was recovered.
