Topsoil stripping for a road to link Hansfield railway station, Barberstown, with Ongar Road was monitored on behalf of Roughan & O’Donovan/Iarnród Éireann. The land consisted of farmland, part of which was a low-lying wet area alongside a stream. It had suffered considerable disturbance in the recent past when the station was being built, and a haul road had been built along part of the route.
The only feature of archaeological interest was a drain made with a ceramic pipe consisting of segments approximately 315mm long and an external diameter of approximately 60mm, with straight ends simply butted together without any overlap or caulking. Their shape was not quite regular, suggesting that they were handmade. The only other finds were an inkwell and ointment jar, both of 19th-century type.
