Trial trench testing took place of presumed undisturbed areas of the previous M1 Balbriggan Bypass works compound, in advance of the construction of a maintenance depot. Although some areas showed surviving upper levels of subsoil, as seen from intact field drains, other areas showed considerable truncation of subsoil though deep wheel-rutting and previous excavations.
